Wendy Rene

Wendy Rene didn't make more than a few singles for Stax. This particular song gained her quite a bit of success, and enough money for the Teenager to buy her own pet monkey. The song almost sounds like it was created in Jamaica's Studio One, with an amazing pulsing reverb drenched keyboard line provided by Booker T.

At 2:49 the "oh OH OH!!!!!!!!!!" is purely amazing, a cathartic moment.

This is a perfect song.

I randomly came across that Southside Movement song as an mp3, which was part of the compilation, but I didn't know that was the comp's raison d'etre. I'll check it out, thanks!

Also, I have another song that samples this track, too - can't recall what it is - fairly scratchy hip-hop with a 14 year old rapping over it... I'll try to dig it out.

Anyways, thanks for the song!

Kyle: Thanks for the heads up, sounds like an interesting comp.

Jay : I'd love to hear the 14 year old rapper!

Thanks so much for that - I just ordered a CD with this song but it was nice to have it all to listen in the meantime.

You may know that it's used amazingly well in that German/Turkish film "Head On" - if you don't know it, I recommend it for a few reasons, one of which is the fine use of music.

I don't know about a 14 year old kid, but as I'm sure a lot of you already know, rza sampled it for Tearz on Enter The Wu-Tang(36 Chambers).
