This song has nothing to do with water

We have been focusing on downer songs so I thought that I needed to lift the spirits high. How better to do that than Loudon Wainwright the III. The Swimming Song never fails to move me. What I mean by move is that I feel a compelling urge to stand up, then I start dancing like your grandpa. Then a grin crosses my face, and I know at that very instant that everything is going to be alright.

The Swimming Song - Loudon Wainwright The III from Attempted Mustache

-------
Being that I so enjoyed your downer suggestions, why not alert me to the songs that make you grin uncontrollably, heaven knows we all should do that more.

"Lord Leopard" by Caribou does the trick. Also "If I Ever Feel Better" by Phoenix (with Erland Oye)- you can't help but bust into the charlston. Too catchy.

This Is The Day - TheThe

Glorious - A Graham and the Moment Band

Shake it Off - Jarvis Church

the last two are too happy for you to be able to resist a little smile. Thethe is just brilliant. It isn't HAPPY persay, but it is too catchy for that to really matter.

"Chief Inspector Blancheflower" by Fiery Furnaces. Damp in Dumbarton dip?

Here are some more songs that have -recently- made me grin uncontrollably:

1. "Do the Whirlwind" by Architecture in Helsinki.

2. "Prospect Hummer" by Animal Collective. Reminds me of Thomas, my all time favorite cat, who lives in Ontario. If he could talk, we'd be best friends, but his only friend is his food bowl.

3. "Be Gentle With me" by The Boy Least Likely To, and really, the rest of the album.

What about "Hong Kong Garden" by Siouxsie and the Banshees?

"Learning to Lie" by The Hidden Cameras is a recent charmer everyone should check out. Oh, and what about "Did You See the Worlds" from the new Animal Collective album, Feels? Good times!

Well, not to toot my own horn or anything (I generally try to keep that a private activity), but the song "Angels Fable" by the Swedish band Gustav & the Seasick Sailors is a hell of a lot of fun (and is, incidentally, available for download at my site - a PLAGUE of ANGELS). Shamless. I know. Sorry.

yep, AiH are brilliant. when anybody talks about the album having "great hooks", they're talking about the ones that catch onto the corners of your mouth and drag them outwards. BIIIIG smile. :D
"do the whirlwind" and "it's 5!" are perfect happytunes. also "too young" by phoenix, "sick day" by the daisycutters, "t-shirt weather" by the lucksmiths and "mushaboom" by feist. lurve.
